Apartment Staging Tips Every Stylist Needs To Know

This blog post is all about apartment staging tips for beginners.

Okay guys, let’s talk about apartment staging tips every stylist needs to know. Apartment staging is amongst my favorite things that I love to do as a stylist.

Whether it’s staging my own apartment or staging an apartment for a client. Staging an apartment isn’t really that different from staging a house, we expect the end results to remain the same. We want it to be beautiful, tell a story, and ultimately unforgettable, in a good way.

What is apartment staging?

The formal definition of apartment staging is simply setting up an area for a potential buyer. Apartment stagers are typically property managers and real estate agents.

It is a way to present a home with heir selling points at the center of the display. Home staging is an important way to make the most of open houses or apartment tours.

I came up with these tips for all designers out there, whether you are a beginner or expert, use these tips as a blueprint for your staging process.

When I first enter into an apartment that I’m going to be staging, I like to really just look around and get a feel for the property. I love to look at the architecture and how the apartment has been constructed. Doing this tells me a lot about the space design-wise before I even begin to pull out my measuring tape or my client’s mood boards.

5 Important Apartment Staging Tips For Beginners

In this blog post, we will review my best tips for staging an apartment or home for yourself or others. By the end of this post, you will have a better idea of how to set up a space that will make the most of the qualities you want to stand out.

1. Plan Your Staging Details

Speaking of mood boards, make sure you have a PLAN. With that being said plans do change so, I try not to get too attached to a design plan, design style or any one piece of decor anything can happen and it will so prepare yourself. Do not let your client nor task overwhelm you. Stay on target, stay on budget and stick to the specifics. Remember, it’s about what you can do.

Be sure not to get stuck on this step. Planning could be simply, getting a statement piece for the living area, or getting a rug for the dining are. It is always good to break things down into simple steps, and with that, you will have a plan to implement.

2. Have a Purpose for Each Space

What does a light fixture, and a queen sized bed have in common? They all have a purpose!

PURPOSE, each room you stage should have a clear and defined purpose. Sometimes it’s very hard for clients to imagine or reimagine a space without visually seeing what the space can potentially be used for especially if it’s an oddly shaped or very small space. When a space has a purpose it will keep your clients interested as they move throughout the apartment.

Staging a purpose for a particular room will help potential customers imagine themselves in the space. And ultimately influence them to spend more time in the space.

3. Your Vision is Limitless!

So as your VISION begins to unfold and come together, bring your A-game! The thing I love about staging an apartment is that there are so many things that you can do without changing a layout or remodeling. Really think outside the box, literally.

Have as many ‘WOW’ moments as possible, leave your clients speechless, bring pieces into the apartment that your client didn’t expect. Remember, as a stylist your goal is to make your client’s vision of the space come true but bigger and better than they ever could imagine.

4. Make an Impression

The most important apartment staging tip is to MAKE AN IMPRESSION. This is your time to shine, trust your design decisions, and do not doubt your talent. Be as innovative as you can when staging the apartment with the use of different textiles, paint, patterns, plants, lighting, mirrors, hardware, and fixtures.

5. Leave Your Mark

Captivate your client and bring the space to life.  Always leave your SIGNATURE MARK, if you don’t have one get one. You want your clients and anyone who enters into the apartment to know that you were the stylist who created this beautiful, lovely, gorgeous, and stunning space.

So let’s get to staging!
